KPV is the tripeptide Lys-Pro-Val, corresponding to the C-terminal 11-13 sequence of alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone.
What researchers examine
Cell studies have examined KPV in NF-kappaB signaling, chemokine secretion, nuclear transport, and epithelial systems. One study also investigated peptide-transporter-1-mediated uptake in intestinal epithelial and immune cells and used mouse colitis models.
How to interpret the evidence
Inhibition of a signaling reporter or cytokine readout in cultured cells does not establish a clinical anti-inflammatory effect. Results depend on cell line, transporter expression, stereochemistry, concentration, and model design. The tripeptide should also be distinguished from KDPV and other alpha-MSH fragments that may have different receptor behavior.
