The chemistry of GHK-Cu and the cell-culture evidence behind its extracellular-matrix research context.

GHK-Cu is a coordination complex formed by the tripeptide glycyl-L-histidyl-L-lysine and copper(II). GHK occurs in human plasma, while copper binding changes the complex's chemical and biological behavior.

What researchers examine

Early fibroblast studies measured collagen synthesis after exposure to GHK-Cu, and related experiments examined glycosaminoglycans, matrix metalloproteinases, and extracellular-matrix remodeling. These are cell-culture endpoints, not clinical outcomes.

How to interpret the evidence

Results depend on copper stoichiometry, oxidation state, medium composition, concentration, cell type, and analytical purity. GHK alone, free copper, and the coordinated GHK-Cu complex should not be treated as interchangeable controls. In vitro collagen measurements do not establish a cosmetic or medical benefit in people.
