Epithalon's AEDG sequence and what cell-culture telomerase findings do—and do not—establish.
Epithalon, also spelled Epitalon, is commonly described as the tetrapeptide Ala-Glu-Asp-Gly, abbreviated AEDG.
What researchers examine
Cell-culture studies have reported changes in telomerase-related measurements and telomere length after Epithalon exposure. A 2003 study used telomerase-negative human fetal fibroblasts, while later work has examined additional normal and cancer-derived cell lines.
How to interpret the evidence
Telomerase activation in cultured cells is not evidence of longer human lifespan, clinical benefit, or safety. Cell passage, baseline telomerase state, assay method, exposure conditions, and independent replication all matter. Research should also distinguish AEDG sequence confirmation from a label name and should avoid extrapolating from in vitro telomere endpoints to whole organisms.
